About the role

As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you may have the opportunity to support a variety of substation projects ranging up to 765kV in engineering detailed design and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC).

Responsibilities

  • Supports a variety of substation projects ranging up to 765kV in engineering detailed design and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC)
  • Develops protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, one line/single line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring and equipment wiring within high voltage substation designs
  • Develops physical design deliverables including yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems within high voltage substation designs
  • Prepares equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
  • Corresponds with clients, vendors and subcontractors
  • Potential travel opportunities to client and vendor offices and/or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification
  • Adheres to and/or prepares design budgets and schedules
  • Performs QA/QC responsibilities
  • Provides support to business development or pursuit activities

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 1 year related work experience.

Qualifications

  • High voltage (HV) substation design experience – Physical and/or Protection & Controls
  • Engineering-in-Training (EIT) Certification
  • Proficient with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Programs (such as Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)

Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures.

Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate.

Complies with B&V quality program relative to assigned tasks.

Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.

Prepares a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables.

Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.

Colls collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.

Prepares increasingly complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.

Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

May recognize, define and resolve problems within assigned area.

Makes assignments to develop entry level professionals and interns.

Coordinates with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects.

Interacts as needed with other disciplines on details of design work.

Works to understand external client's interest and drivers through regular interaction and communication.

Also focuses on needs of internal clients and project leadership.

May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.

Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes.

May assist with performance management process, recognition, and any corrective actions required.

Actively mentors entry level professionals and interns.
