About the Role

The Associate Director, Thought Leader Liaison (Central) is responsible for executing and supporting the Thought Leader (TL) Engagement strategy within the central U.S. for AbbVie’s platinum-resistant ovarian cancer asset, ELAHERE. The role works cross-functionally to identify, engage, and build professional relationships with medical experts in gynecologic cancer and execute regional engagement plans in a commercial capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Director in executing the overarching thought leader engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with AbbVie’s broader oncology business objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and support thought leader engagement strategy within the region, including regional advisory board meetings, special engagements, congress planning, HCP engagement, and special projects.
  • Build and maintain long-term business relationships and trusted partnerships with national/regional healthcare professionals (HCPs) to support strategic engagement objectives and foster collaboration.
  • Garner and synthesize insights aligned to strategic brand priorities to shape brand strategy.
  • Oversee the performance of regional speaker programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Coordinate and support TL engagements at medical conferences, collaborating with relevant functions for a seamless HCP experience.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, medical, and external agencies, to ensure seamless execution of regional initiatives.
  • Lead and co-lead the materials review process (MRP), including job code creation, resource approval, and field resource deployment.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring timely execution of plans, adherence to timelines, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Handle contracting and payment of medical experts, including SOWs, POs, and finance reporting.
  • Co-lead agency partners to ensure adherence to timelines, budget constraints, and PRC submission accuracy.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience within the biopharmaceutical industry, including:
    • Minimum 1–2 years in marketing (MRP, legal, and regulatory reviews) and field experience (e.g., Sales Leadership, District Manager, Thought Leader Liaison, Account Management).
  • Experience in oncology required; gynecologic oncology preferred.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expertise in the MRP process (from initiation to approvals).
  • Demonstrated track record of building strong partnerships and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Inclusive peer leadership skills and ability to influence without authority.
  • Customer-service approach and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work individually, within multi-disciplinary teams, and with external partners.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to collate insights and share actionable recommendations.

  • 60% domestic travel (office, field time, internal meetings, conferences).
  • Must satisfy all applicable healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements, which may include background checks, drug screens, immunizations, fingerprinting, and state-specific licenses.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and meet safe driving requirements.

The compensation range for this role is based on the job grade and may vary depending on geographic location. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for participation in AbbVie’s long-term incentive programs.
