Associate Director RN Oncology PCU

Tucson, Arizona – Oncology PCU, Day shift

About the role

This leadership position provides managerial and clinical support to patients and staff on the Oncology Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Banner University Medical Center – Tucson, a nationally recognized Magnet facility and Level 1 Trauma Center. You will oversee a cohesive team, drive quality and process improvements, and ensure high-quality, safe, and cost-effective patient care.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians, escalating and resolving patient, process, and family issues.
• Manage unit operations to optimize patient care and resource utilization.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate quality and process improvement initiatives in collaboration with the director.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and facilitate communication of system, regional, and department initiatives.
• Manage operational and capital budgets, including resource allocation.
• Foster staff leadership through shared governance models and support career advancement opportunities.
• Oversee staff selection, orientation, on-boarding, retention, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.
• Actively mentor entry-level nurse managers while leading clinical improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• BSN or MSN required (BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months).
• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• BLS certification.
• Minimum of two years of clinical management experience relevant to the patient population.
• Strong knowledge and skills in the specialty area (Oncology experience preferred).
• Critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, and analytical skills.
• Ability to practice according to department and professional standards.
• For Behavioral Health settings: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit required.
