About the Program

The Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) is a state-of-the-art acute service providing a spectrum of services designed to meet the needs of a diverse clientele in the most effective and least restrictive manner possible. In addition to acute evaluation and stabilization of adult and geriatric populations, CPEP offers consultation services to the Medical Emergency Department (MED), Pediatric Emergency Department (PEDS ED), and Inpatient Medical units.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of attending psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric physician assistants, residents, medical students, and psychology interns.
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Collaborate with leaders in other areas of the Department, including inpatient and ambulatory programs, as well as the Emergency Medicine Department.
  • Assume a key role in Patient Safety and Clinical Effectiveness initiatives.
  • Provide leadership in undergraduate medical education, including active participation in the clinical and didactic teaching of medical students and graduate medical education of residents.
  • Manage incident reviews and participate in departmental Incident Review Committee (IRC) meetings.
  • Review and revise guidelines for standards of care to ensure CPEP meets Office of Mental Health (OMH) regulations.
  • Provide leadership for all tours within the department.

Department Overview

The Department of Psychiatry includes 3 Adult Inpatient Units, a satellite CPEP, a Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison service, a Partial Hospital Program, an Outpatient Department, and an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.
