About the role

The Associate Director, PMO is a frontline manager for the project management team, supervising staff responsible for managing projects that align with a specific program. This role operates in a strategic program management capacity, managing the project pipeline for a client or large brand. Associate Directors are well-versed in all project delivery processes for technology and strategy projects and in PMO standards. They are responsible for the growth and development of their team and accountable for the successful delivery of projects within that team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and manage creative and strategic projects/programs
  • Develop program and client-level staffing plans
  • Prepare program and client reporting: health, status, risks, and key program milestones
  • Create and implement issue mitigation plans
  • Define and implement onboarding plans
  • Ensure billability of the project management team
  • Conduct performance evaluations and goal setting for Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Senior Project Managers
  • Perform issue and escalation root cause analysis
  • Facilitate retrospective meetings and share results with relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the portfolio team on client roadmaps and improvement plans
  • Develop direct reports and serve in a coaching and mentoring role across the team
  • Enforce process adherence and actively manage resistance
  • Monitor consistent successes/challenges and propose opportunities for process and standards improvement
  • Review project work output and provide feedback
  • Manage and prioritize team workload
  • Set team-level goals and objectives to ensure successful outcomes across clients and projects
  • Manage team escalations
  • Proactively identify program-level risks
  • Oversee program health (budget, scope, and timeline)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education plus professional experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Delivery and management of strategic projects and programs in an advertising agency environment
  • Ability to recognize when to step in and lead high-complexity and/or high-visibility projects
  • Program management knowledge and experience
  • Expert knowledge about how to execute all project types
  • Experience working with ambiguity and ability to mentor others in this area

Pay

If this job posting includes a base salary range, it represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, other job-related qualifications/skills, and geographic location (to account for comparative cost of living).
