Position Summary
The Associate Director of Impact and Evaluation at Teaching Matters serves as a core member of the Strategy team, focusing on translating the impact of Teaching Matters' work into clear, compelling evidence for educators, district leaders, funders, and national partners. This role oversees the operational aspects of data management and research infrastructure, positioning Teaching Matters for larger-scale research partnerships, federal grant opportunities, and other long-term evaluation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Works closely with the CEO, Vice Presidents of Programs, Strategy, and Development to develop effective long-term strategies for using data and evidence to support the organization's mission and vision.
- Manages the organizational strategy for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of data collection systems to achieve mission and strategic plan performance measures.
- Operationalizes higher-touch methods for collecting feedback and data, including interviews, surveys, focus groups, and case studies.
- Presents data analysis and periodic reporting in consultation with Strategy, Programs, Communications, and Development staff.
- Ensures that lessons learned throughout projects are captured and communicated to internal stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Collaborates with the Programs team through periodic school site visits to better understand implementation, support continuous improvement efforts, and help ensure alignment to Teaching Matters' quality standards.
- Contributes to the design, launch, and implementation of new services and programs in collaboration with program staff and leadership.
- Supports the operations managers in providing formative support and evaluating short and longer-term results of programs.
- Reviews and synthesizes academic literature on best practices relating to Teaching Matters' goals.
- Maintains awareness of competitors, research, and product innovation as they relate to student outcomes and research student outcomes and needs that are local and national.
- Drafts or assists in the drafting of press releases, policy briefs, blog posts, op-eds, annual reports, public comment letters, grant reports, or any other written deliverables involving how the organization presents its impact and outcomes.
- Supports board subcommittees for evaluation, preparing all needed materials and reports, including leading such presentations and communications to the board.
- Addresses any other tasks assigned by the Vice President of Strategy and the CEO.
- Supervises all sub-contractors and vendors involved in research and evaluation activities when applicable.
Qualifications
- Masters degree required.
- Experience in urban schools.
- 5+ years of experience in program evaluation and/or nonprofit or government impact measurement.
- Strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation methodologies involving both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Robust expertise in the design and management of databases.
- Familiarity designing and executing common data collection methods, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and experiments.
- Extensive statistical analysis skills and experience with statistical software.
- High degree of computer literacy; Microsoft Office Suite skills are essential.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills; ability to make complex information accessible to a wide variety of audiences and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members across multiple department areas.

Perks and Compensation
- This position is full-time 40 hours per week.
- An ideal candidate would be based in NYC, or be willing to travel to NYC schools on a semi-regular basis.
- Salary range: $111,489-$130,070 per year, based on experience and credential.
- 403b options, with 6% match after one year of employment.
