Position Summary

The Associate Director of Finance and Business Operations for Columbus, Indiana City Utilities (CCU) is responsible for analyzing, preparing, and presenting the utilities’ financial data. Preparation of financial statements and various reports is pertinent to the daily function of the utility. This position presents all financial data to the Utility Service Board (USB) during the monthly board meetings. This position manages eight to nine staff members, which includes the business office and the CCU Information Services department and manages the work of financial and information technology consultants. As the Associate Director over business operations, this position oversees the billing and collection of revenues of more than 19,000 water and sewer customers. This position is also responsible for overseeing the preparation of the annual financial plan, which forecasts revenues, establishes a balanced budget, and develops along-term capital plan for all utility departments. Works closely and effectively with the Controller of the City of Columbus in financial matters pertaining to the City and CCU and with Human Resources in personnel matters pertaining to the City and CCU. Works in person at the main office of Columbus City Utilities (CCU) five days a week.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing a team of finance and IT professionals.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting financial plans and budgets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of financial management principles and practices.
  • Experience with financial software and systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
