About the role
The Associate Director of Communications supports the Gabelli School of Business in elevating its brand reputation and visibility in the US and international markets. They assist in developing communications strategies and campaigns, manage public relations initiatives, and help build thought leadership.
Responsibilities
- Assists in pitching and placing faculty content experts across various industries.
- Briefs local, national, and global media on developments at the school, including newly published faculty research, academic and career-focused initiatives, and student accomplishments and outcomes.
- Develops and edits communications for admissions marketing at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Works on developing and editing publications such as the Gabelli School Business Magazine, the annual report, newsletters, and digital communications.
- Aims to amplify stories about student job placements and experiential learning opportunities.
- Schedules, organizes, and promotes industry conferences and events.
- Provides media training to faculty members and administrators.
- Builds reporter lists and tracks media mentions and placements.
- Strengthens ties with NYC businesses and government agencies through external speaker invitations.
- Drafts and screens social media posts for the Gabelli School Feed.
- Maintains relationships with the external public relations firm.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications or public relations.
- Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences and platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to use and manage all forms of social media.
- Working knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office suites.
Preferred Qualifications
- More than 7 years of experience in communications or public relations.
- Master’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Previous or current work in a university setting.
- Experience in college and university communications and event organizing.
