About the Department
The Office of Alumni Engagement's primary purpose is to develop, coordinate, and promote programs for alumni to keep them connected and involved with UNC Charlotte and one another. It serves UNC Charlotte alumni and students to strengthen connections and encourage involvement with the institution. The Office of Alumni Engagement is within the division of University Advancement.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Affinity Networks, the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for managing affinity-based alumni events and programs. Affinity-based events and programs are defined as events or programs organized by and for groups of alumni with a shared interest or experience, including geographic location, corporate affiliation, student organization affiliation, and professional industry. Events may be in-person (on or off campus) or virtual.
Responsibilities
- Strategically develop programs, activities, and communications to connect, serve, and engage alumni within various affinities.
- Support the Senior Associate Director of Affinity Networks to create and execute engagement opportunities for alumni working within key Charlotte area corporations.
- Develop and execute a strategy for growing engagement among alumni affiliated with Greek student organizations, including data collection and management processes related to student organization involvement.
- Serve as the Alumni Engagement liaison with the Athletics department, managing athletics-related events such as watch parties, away game tailgates, and conference tournament events.
- Manage volunteers and committees working on specific programs or events, including corporate engagement activities, Greek organization alumni gatherings, regional gatherings, and athletic events.
- Respond to alumni inquiries and proactively identify alumni groups to engage.
- Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with alumni to deepen awareness about involvement opportunities and strengthen their connection with the University.
- Collaborate with the Alumni Communications Specialist to align communications and marketing initiatives with programming, including developing a yearly communications plan.
- Work with volunteer boards to reach 100% giving by members during each fiscal year, including creating and sending letters/email solicitations and direct verbal asks.
- Develop and manage a budget for the area of oversight, exercising sound judgment in selecting event venues and vendors while assessing risk management and university safety standards.
- Play a key role in managing corporate and Greek engagement strategies within University-wide initiatives, including Niner Nation Week, Niner Nation Gives, and Niner Nation Serves.
- Collaborate with development officers, the University Career Center, Athletics, Admissions, University Communications, the Director of Corporate Engagement and Strategic Sponsorships, and other campus partners to engage alumni.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Engagement, Director of Alumni Engagement Programming, and/or Senior Associate Director of Alumni Networks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in alumni engagement, event planning, volunteer management, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in alumni engagement or higher education.
- Volunteer management experience.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines while seeing projects through from beginning to end.
- Ability to travel and participate in evening and weekend activities.
- Ability to authentically and enthusiastically represent the mission, vision, and values of UNC Charlotte and contribute to its diverse and inclusive campus culture.
Schedule
8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday; evenings and weekends as needed. This position is eligible for one day of telework with the supervisor's approval.
