About the role
The Associate Director of Academic Advising Initiatives provides oversight of academic advising, new student onboarding, and student success initiatives within the College of Arts and Sciences. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating college participation in new student enrollment and orientation programs
- Supervising, developing, and assessing professional advising staff
- Leading advisor training and workload management
- Supporting college-wide retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives
- Maintaining a limited advising caseload while providing complex academic guidance
- Collaborating with academic departments and campus partners to improve student success outcomes
- Contributing to assessment, data analysis, and continuous improvement efforts
- Serving on college and university committees
- Advancing professional development and best practices in academic advising

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 years of experience in higher education with evidence of 1:1 student interaction in advising or related areas
- Ability to learn and explain extensive university/college requirements, federal law, policies, and procedures
- Experience using a variety of technology platforms
- Strong leadership skills and supervisory experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to lead projects, build relationships, and collaborate across functional units
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in liberal arts and sciences
- 3 years direct academic advising experience
- Public speaking skills
- Experience helping students explore and pursue career opportunities
