About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Associate Director to lead our Mutual Fund Tax team, ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance and reporting for a diverse portfolio of mutual funds. This role requires deep expertise in investment company taxation and strong leadership capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and review of all federal, state, and local income tax returns for various mutual fund structures (e.g., RICs, ETFs, UITs)
- Manage the calculation and distribution of shareholder dividends and capital gains, ensuring compliance with IRC Sections 851-855
- Direct the preparation of tax provisions, estimated tax payments, and year-end tax planning for mutual funds
- Lead the research and interpretation of complex tax regulations and pronouncements affecting the mutual fund industry
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize fund performance and minimize tax liabilities while adhering to regulatory requirements
- Mentor, train, and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment
- Collaborate cross-functionally with fund accounting, legal, compliance, and portfolio management teams
- Identify and implement process improvements and technological solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax reporting
- Stay abreast of industry trends, legislative changes, and best practices in mutual fund taxation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 8-+ years of progressive experience in mutual fund taxation, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Extensive knowledge of Subchapter M of the Internal Revenue Code and other relevant tax regulations applicable to regulated investment companies (RICs)
- Proven experience with tax compliance software (e.g., GoSystem Tax RS, ONESOURCE) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts clearly and concisely
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Proven leadership abilities with a track record of successfully managing, developing, and motivating a team
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Taxation is a plus
- CPA certification highly preferred

Pay
The expected base salary for the position is between 95000 USD to 180000 USD.
