Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison - Southeastern PA / New Jersey

Cytokinetics is a specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company with over 25 years of pioneering scientific innovations in muscle biology. This field-based role reports to the Field Director, Medical Sciences, and serves as a key scientific resource for healthcare providers, patients, investigators, and internal colleagues. The position focuses on key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and heart failure therapeutic areas, supporting both current and pipeline products. The role involves high visibility and critical cross-functional relationships across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development/Operations, and Commercial.

Areas covered: Southeastern PA, Philadelphia, and New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Develop a territory strategic plan to identify national, regional, and local Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in cardiovascular care and engage them in proactive and reactive scientific exchange.
• Maintain and broaden professional relationships with healthcare providers (physicians, NPs, PAs, nurses, and pharmacists) in institutional care centers to expand research, advisory, and educational partnerships; identify unmet medical needs; and facilitate the exchange of current medical information.
• Contribute to planning and execution of congress activities, including reviewing scientific programming, attending sessions, supporting exhibit booth operations, and providing a timely written conference report summarizing key information and competitive intelligence.
• Serve as a scientific expert at medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, internal meetings, and patient advocacy group meetings.
• Maintain a high level of scientific knowledge about disease states, underlying science, treatment guidelines, available therapies, and emerging treatments in heart failure and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
• Stay informed about current trends in clinical research, competitive developments, patient care, and their impact on Cytokinetics’ medical strategies.
• Collaborate with Medical Affairs and other internal teams on initiatives such as medical information, publications, medical education, grants, speaker training, and other educational programs.
• Support clinical development programs by serving as a key point of contact for company-sponsored trial investigators, investigator-initiated research, and registries, ensuring compliance with company objectives and regulations.
• Work compliantly and collaboratively with field account specialists in support of MYQORZO.
• Respond to unsolicited requests for medical information in a timely and accurate manner.

For the Associate Director, Medical Scientist level, additional responsibilities include:

• Mentor and support Senior Medical Scientists.
• Provide strategic input and execute region-specific plans to achieve KOL engagement and Medical Affairs departmental goals.
• Pursue projects independently with a high degree of quality and timely execution.
• Maintain awareness of current "real-world" clinical practices, HEOR drivers, and emerging trends in treatments.
• Establish relationships with key executive leadership colleagues and connect external parties with appropriate leadership team members.

Qualifications

• Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred.
• Advanced clinical or scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD/DO, MS, PA, ARNP) preferred.
• For Senior Medical Scientist: 0-5 years of clinical or pharmaceutical industry experience.
• For Associate Director: Minimum of 5 years of cardiovascular Medical Science Liaison (MSL) experience; experience in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and/or heart failure is preferable.
• Analytical and articulate in both oral and written communications, with excellent presentation skills and the ability to engage with external stakeholders and all internal levels of the organization.
• Understanding of MSL roles and responsibilities, including compliance with PhRMA Code Standards, federal and state promotional laws, ACCME Standards, and company policies.
• Compliance with credentialing requirements for healthcare institutions, including background checks, medical testing, proof of immunizations, and adherence to confidentiality/HIPAA agreements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel domestically (~30%-50%) and internationally on occasion.

Pay

The expected salary range for this position is $197,460.00 - $247,800.00. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
