About the role

The Associate Director (AD) of Materials Demand Management leads demand and inventory management processes to ensure reliable supply of Boehringer's Human Pharma (HP) medicines to the US market. This role bridges commercial, supply chain, and operations teams to balance demand, supply, and financial objectives. As part of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of products to patients and customers, collaborating internationally to drive the company's success.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the US Materials Demand Management function, prioritizing initiatives that support US and Global Human Pharma business plans.
  • Partners with stakeholders, Contract Manufacturers (CMOs), and BI global production sites to align supply chain priorities, ensure supply continuity, improve processes, and execute inventory strategy.
  • Balances service level goals with inventory levels and logistics and warehousing costs.
  • Sets inventory coverage targets, leads mitigation plans for excess or obsolete inventory, and ensures Demand Managers understand and comply with global supply chain processes.
  • Directs and develops processes for the monthly HP US Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP) cycle, ensuring robust, cross-functional discussion and alignment related to forecasts, new business, net requirements, and supply chain capabilities.
  • Identifies and escalates risks to market supply and drives scenario planning and decision-making to support business objectives.
  • Directs activities and monthly processes to maintain an appropriate balance between short-term (Tactical) and long-term (Strategic) goals.
  • Supports HP US product launch and transfer activities to ensure rapid launches and reliable market supply.
  • Ensures strong cross-functional collaboration and alignment with HP US business, site teams, and global SCM colleagues on launch volumes and timelines.
  • Challenges launch and transfer assumptions and timelines, providing visibility to supply constraints and potential costs.
  • Manages labeling (insert, bottle label, folding carton) version change processes, ensuring compliance while minimizing destruction and repackaging costs.
  • Ensures financial visibility through effective reserves and expiring demand processes.
  • Ensures GMP compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice, Storage, and Distribution during brand product transfers.
  • Leads continuous improvement activities, including process improvements in S&OP maturity, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Uses analytical tools to identify trends, increase visibility of inventory opportunities and issues, and scenario plan effectively.
  • Identifies, facilitates, and creates standard business processes.
  • Leads and develops employees by setting clear expectations, coaching performance, removing barriers, supporting growth, recognizing contributions, and making sound staffing and compensation decisions.
  • Communicates site and department goals, ensuring teams have the time, tools, and support to perform effectively.
  • Builds direct reports’ skills and knowledge and recognizes performance to strengthen engagement.
  • Develops budgets, personnel plans, and long-term forecasts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in supply chain, business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a regulated industry (e.g., drugs, food, chemicals, medical device) in supply chain, operations, or another relevant area. Pharma experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated breadth of knowledge in the pharma business or across functions and processes within a supply chain or production environment (e.g., Production, Planning, Logistics).
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in effectively leading people and projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence and persuade individuals to gain acceptance of ideas or plans.
  • Ability to utilize active listening skills to understand concerns or reasoning, build trust, and foster strategic relationships.
  • Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to identify complex problems, review related information, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and influence diverse cross-functional work teams.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of leadership experience in a Pharmaceutical (preferred) or related business, or relevant project management/leadership responsibility for cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 20–30%.

Eligibility Requirements: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required). Must be 18 years of age or older.
