Responsibilities
This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Department of Athletics. Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversees sports information, media relations, public relations, social media strategy, and gameday communications while promoting the FAMU Athletics brand and ensuring compliance with NCAA, SWAC, and university standards;
- Serve as the primary communications contact for Men's Basketball and assigned sports, overseeing sports information, media relations, and public relations activities;
- Produce game notes, statistics, game recaps, feature stories, press releases, historical records, award nominations, and other communications materials using approved statistical software;
- Cook up media requests, interviews, press conferences, broadcasts, and gameday press operations while serving as the primary liaison to local, regional, and national media;
- Manage social media content and live gameday coverage for assigned sports, collaborating with creative services to develop engaging digital content and monitor analytics to enhance audience engagement.
- Develop and promote feature stories highlighting student-athletes, coaches, academic achievement, community engagement, and departmental initiatives that strengthen the FAMU Athletics brand;
- Ensure all communications and digital content comply with NCAA, SWAC, university, branding, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) requirements;
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student assistants, interns, and gameday communications staff while managing multiple sport assignments and competing deadlines;
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Department of Athletics' communications, branding, media relations, and student-athlete experience;
- Employee is required to work outside of normal business hours (to include nights and weekends) based on athletics’ department schedule and other University events to meet the needs of the University;

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and six years of related experience;
- or master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience.
Recommended Competencies
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules related to communications, recruiting, and student-athlete NIL;
- Experience serving as a primary contact for men’s basketball or a comparable high-profile sport;
- Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) and content graphics;
- Proficiency with statistics software (e.g., StatCrew/Genius Sports/Presto Stats) and strong AP-style writing skills;
- Demonstrated ability to manage social media content and gameday coverage;
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across news, features, and social formats;
- Strong statistical accuracy and command of press box and game operations;
- Prioritize and Multi-task-Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
