Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve IREN's global environmental management framework, policies, standards, procedures, and stewardship programs.
- Establish enterprise-wide environmental governance processes, performance expectations, reporting mechanisms, and accountability structures.
- Monitor evolving environmental regulations, industry developments, and leading practices, ensuring timely integration into company standards and operational requirements.
- Drive a culture of environmental stewardship, risk management, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Establish environmental performance indicators and metrics to measure program effectiveness and support decision-making.
- Advise on environmental due diligence for prospective data center sites, acquisitions, expansions, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Oversee environmental screening assessments, baseline environmental studies, environmental impact assessments, and environmental risk evaluations.
- Partner with Commercial, Engineering, and Development teams to evaluate environmental opportunities, constraints, and mitigation strategies associated with site selection and project development.
- Provide strategic guidance regarding environmental liabilities, permitting pathways, environmental sensitivities, and development risks during investment and project planning activities.
- Support growth initiatives by integrating environmental requirements into project design, development, and execution processes.
- Advisory on environmental legislation, permitting requirements, compliance obligations, and leading practices across operating jurisdictions.
- Establish standards and processes for environmental compliance assurance, monitoring, auditing, reporting, and performance verification.
- Support operational teams in maintaining compliance with environmental permits, regulatory requirements, commitments, and company standards.
- Identify emerging environmental risks and regulatory developments that may impact business operations and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulators, environmental agencies, consultants, and other external stakeholders.
- Develop and oversee enterprise-wide programs related to: Waste management and waste minimization, Water stewardship and conservation, Energy management and resource optimization, Environmental monitoring and performance reporting, Contractor environmental management, Pollution prevention and environmental protection, Environmental incident management and investigation.
- Promote sustainable operational practices that support business objectives and environmental performance goals.
- Support the development and implementation of wider HSE and ESG/sustainability strategies, commitments, and performance objectives.
- Partner with Commercial, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications teams to support ESG disclosures, sustainability reports, investor communications, and stakeholder inquiries.
- Oversee environmental data collection, validation, and reporting processes to support internal and external reporting requirements.
- Contribute environmental subject matter expertise to climate, sustainability, and responsible business initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Commercial, Engineering, Community Engagement, Investor Relations, Procurement, Human Resources, Risk Management, and operational leadership teams.
- Provide environmental subject matter expertise to executive leadership and key business stakeholders.
- Develop environmental competency throughout the organization through training, coaching, mentoring, and awareness initiatives.
- Represent IREN in industry forums, regulatory engagements, community discussions, and external stakeholder interactions as required.
- Influence business decisions through a practical, risk-based, and solutions-oriented approach to environmental management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive environmental leadership experience, including responsibilities across multiple countries and regulatory jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing environmental management systems, governance frameworks, standards, and environmental stewardship programs.
- Strong knowledge of environmental due diligence, environmental impact assessments, permitting, compliance management, environmental monitoring, and environmental risk management.
- Experience supporting data center construction and operations and/or large-scale industrial construction and operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting greenfield development projects, site selection processes, and environmental permitting activities.
- Experience managing environmental consultants, contractors, and external subject matter experts.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate across diverse business functions and geographic regions.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and project management skills.
- Fully fluent in English.
- Preferred qualifications include professional certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor, Certified Sustainability Professional, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent, and demonstrated proficiency and practical application of environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks, permitting requirements, and compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
