Associate Director, Fraternity & Sorority Life
About the Role
The Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) plays a key role in advising and supporting the university's fraternity and sorority community, including councils, individual chapters, and affiliated organizations.
Responsibilities
- Advise the Panhellenic, National Pan-Hellenic, and Interfraternity Councils, as well as individual fraternity and sorority chapters.
- Advise Gamma Sigma Alpha, Ordre of Omega, and Rho Lambda.
- Assist organizations in developing, coordinating, and upholding policies and procedures.
- Establish specialized training and provide personalized assistance to organizations.
- Maintain accurate records of chapter membership, recruitment statistics, service hours, and scholarship.
- Manage the Office RooConnect page, including updates of forms, files, and resources.
- Supervise and provide an educational experience to two student staff within the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
- Assist in programming key fraternity and sorority life events and traditions.
- Lead effective and comprehensive recruitment activities and initiatives.
- Serve as a resource for faculty, staff, students, alumni/ae, and national offices collaborating on fraternity and sorority initiatives.
- Provide professional development by serving on University committees and participating in relevant organizations.
- Coordinate educational programs for the fraternity and sorority community, with emphasis on recruitment, community, and policy.
- Handle contract negotiation and processing for programs and events.
- Manage the programming budget, including planning, directing, and controlling financial resources.
- Administer the FSL Enhancement Fund, including chapter recruitment grants, professional development initiatives, the FSL Ambassadors program, and strategic use of gift funds.
- Lead collaborative efforts with the University Alumni Association to strengthen alumni engagement through meetings, mentorship, philanthropy, and support strategies.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for fraternity and sorority life programs.
- Create an ongoing assessment program (qualitative and quantitative) to monitor satisfaction and growth of fraternity and sorority life programming.
- Oversee the Department of Student Life Marketing area, supervising a team of student employees, including a social media coordinator, 2-3 student photographers, and a content creator.
- Assist the Director of Student Life with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Relevant master's degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience with fraternity and sorority life programs, advising, and/or employment with a national fraternity or sorority.
- Ability to counsel and advise students regarding university policies and requirements.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Articulate understanding of the mission, culture, climate, and environment of a metropolitan university.
- Experience with Workday and Microsoft Office preferred.
Leadership
Provide direct supervision and evaluation of work as a first-line supervisor over non-exempt staff, including hiring, terminating, and disciplining. Offer functional guidance and/or project leadership over exempt staff engaged in recurring activities.
Physical Requirements
Job is physically comfortable; individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking or standing. May occasionally lift very lightweight objects.
Working Conditions
Standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences such as occasional noise, crowded conditions, minor heating/cooling or ventilation issues, and up to 40% use of a PC terminal.
