About the Role

The Associate Director, Client Advisory is a key member of the Client Advisory Team, partnering with Directors and Managing Directors to deliver comprehensive wealth management solutions. This role combines client relationship management, investment implementation, wealth planning coordination, business development, operational oversight, and team mentorship. It offers a long-term career path with increasing responsibility, client ownership, and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Client Advisory & Relationship Support
    • Manage and maintain multiple client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor.
    • Act as a primary point of contact for client inquiries via phone, video, and in-person meetings.
    • Proactively identify and address client needs while maintaining a high standard of service.
    • Partner with wealth planning teams to execute clients’ income tax, estate, and philanthropic plans.
    • Prepare and maintain client balance sheets and data aggregation.
    • Collaborate with wealth planning and tax teams on pre-transaction tax mitigation and concentrated position management.
  • Business Development & Practice Management
    • Support the team in identifying and pitching new potential clients.
    • Develop and expand referral networks to build Pathstone’s presence.
    • Assist with team projects related to client topics and business development.
    • Maintain industry awareness through research, conferences, and networking.
    • Contribute to designing and executing client development practices.
  • Investment Implementation
    • Support the Client Advisory Team in implementing Investment Research Team’s guidance.
    • Create and maintain investment policy statements for clients.
    • Oversee portfolio construction, rebalancing, and cash flow planning.
    • Collaborate with clients on spending policy, asset location, and custody.
  • Analysis, Reporting & Operations
    • Prepare performance analyses and client presentation materials.
    • Support quarterly reporting processes, including reconciliation and review.
    • Act as a liaison to external professionals (accountants, attorneys, lenders, etc.).
  • Leadership & Mentorship
    • Mentor Associates and Senior Associates on operational matters.
    • Contribute to process improvements and operational best practices.
    • Participate in leader-led sessions on advisory best practices and leadership development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Completion of, or meaningful progress toward, an advanced degree or professional designation (CFP®, CFA, MBA, or JD).
  • 5–8+ years of experience in wealth management, private banking, family office, or financial advisory environments.
  • Series 65 required (or attained within 90 days of employment).

Skills

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management for time-sensitive matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
  • Comfortable communicating with clients and advisors on investments, estate planning, financial markets, and tax planning.
  • Foundational knowledge of globally diversified portfolios, asset allocation, and alternative investments.
  • Strong relationship management, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and ability to prioritize competing demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity, commitment to continuous learning, and ambition for leadership and client ownership.

Pay

Pathstone’s expected starting base compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $150,000 per year. The actual base compensation will be set based on experience, education, specialty, and training. Eligible candidates may also receive a discretionary bonus award.
