About the role
The Associate Director, Business HR- R&D serves as a trusted partner to the business, helping to shape AbbVie's culture, support its strategies, and deliver the talent and capabilities needed to make a remarkable impact on AbbVie and patients worldwide. The role leverages best-in-class HR practices to continuously create, deliver, and support programs that establish AbbVie as an employer of choice while empowering all employees at all levels.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary strategic partner to the business. Assist or lead the creation and implementation of HR strategies to meet organizational and business needs.
- Coach, consult, and influence business leaders, including senior leadership, regarding leadership development, succession planning, and talent management. Engage and influence business leaders through strong relationship-building skills and strategic insights.
- Develop and implement strategies to attract, develop, and retain talent that meets current and future business needs. This includes identifying and cultivating new capabilities required for future success. Lead talent development and succession planning efforts.
- Ensure the effective delivery of all HR programs and service, and be responsible for HR results in the business, including client satisfaction, HR effectiveness, and associated financial results.
- Establish, build, and maintain strong relationships with key HR partners from all Centers of Excellence and Service Centers to ensure HR elements are successfully coordinated to meet business needs; include relationship management, leadership, HR roles & responsibilities, and service delivery commitments.
- Provide consultation on and lead organization design and effectiveness / structure issues to ensure optimal performance.
- Drive people manager development to create clarity and consistency of expectations, accountability, and enriched manager/employee experiences. Partner with people leaders to shape a culture of high employee engagement, high performance, diversity and inclusion.
- Facilitate, implement, and model change. Develop and deliver effective communication strategies that align with organizational priorities and support business objectives.
- Champion AbbVie Ways We Work with Business by modeling, educating, and coaching on these behaviors.
- Identify trends and new approaches to business processes that should be both incremental and ahead of the curve.
- Develop proposals and recommendations to resolve strategically important issues with a strategic approach to problem-solving on HR issues (enterprise mindset, connecting the dots, thinking ahead).
- Lead large scale, strategic projects and initiatives with multi-year impact, capable of creating transformation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 8+ years of relevant HR experience
- Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting the business; strong business acumen
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in a complex and demanding environment
- Project management or business experience
- Experience in organizational development, design, and effectiveness
- Experience supporting a global business and partnering with internationally-based business leaders and HR colleagues
- Strategic thinking with proven experience in leading multiple programs and initiatives, with the ability to prioritize
- Significant breadth of understanding of functional/CoE HR roles and responsibilities and their impact on the business
- Experience interacting with and presenting to senior management. Ability to engage employees at all levels

Pay
$141,500 - $268,500 USD
