About the role

The associate digital designer, as a member of HOPE’s digital team, supports the marketing department by producing visual content for web, email, presentations, and other digital channels. Working closely with the graphic design and digital teams, this role helps execute screen-based design across a range of marketing initiatives – from campaign assets and email graphics to web page design and CMS updates. This role is an opportunity to grow as a designer within a creative, mission-driven team, contributing meaningfully to HOPE’s efforts to proclaim Christ and alleviate poverty.

Responsibilities

  • Create graphics for HOPE’s website, email campaigns, digital advertising, social media, and other screen-based materials in alignment with brand standards.
  • Design and update web graphics, banners, landing page assets, and other digital content under direction from the digital design team.
  • Apply consistent use of typography, color, and imagery to maintain visual brand integrity across all screen-based outputs.
  • Design and format PowerPoint presentations for donor events, leadership communications, and internal meetings.
  • Support page design and asset updates in ExpressionEngine (HOPE’s content management system), placing and formatting visual elements while maintaining visual consistency across web pages.
  • Aid in email design and production, supporting visually engaging communications for donor, partner, and organizational audiences.
  • Incorporate AI tools into design workflows to work efficiently and expand creative output, exercising judgment to ensure quality and brand alignment in all AI-assisted work.
  • Utilize Asana to manage and communicate on design requests, tracking project deadlines and priorities to ensure timely delivery of planned and requested materials.
  • Work closely with the graphic design, digital, and marketing strategy teams, serving as a collaborative partner on screen-focused projects and helping ensure design work supports broader marketing goals.
  • Maintain organized design asset libraries and assist with file management to support team efficiency.
  • Support photo and video asset management workflows, including uploading and categorizing files and assisting with photo and video editing as skills and bandwidth allow.

Requirements

  • Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International
  • A degree in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or relevant experience
  • Excellent visual communication skills; understanding of typography, color theory, and design principles
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating visual communication ability across screen-based formats
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud – Photoshop and Illustrator required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic familiarity with HTML and CSS; understanding of how designs translate to the web
  • Experience with a content management system (CMS); willingness to learn ExpressionEngine
  • Familiarity with HTML email design and/or email service platforms (such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud) a plus
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to balance multiple demands and deadlines with composure
  • 1+ years of professional design experience preferred
  • Experience using AI tools in a design workflow; ability to apply AI-assisted output with sound judgment and brand awareness
  • Experience with photo editing (Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop) a plus
  • Basic animation or motion graphics skills a plus
  • Knowledge of modern web design standards, best practices, and UI/UX design principles a plus

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate students who have completed at least their sophomore year by the start of the internship, recent graduates, and graduate students are eligible to apply for internships.
  • Recent graduates, graduate students, and business professionals are eligible to apply for fellowships.
  • Spring and fall fellowship applications are considered on a rolling basis.
  • Individuals being considered for a position will have a preliminary pre-recorded interview and then secondary interviews over the phone or Microsoft Teams.
  • HOPE International offers a stipend to offset the expense of rent during the internship/fellowship. Interns and fellows receive a stipend of $500/month. HOPE may provide interns and fellows with fundraising resources if necessary.
  • Applicants requiring an earlier decision date should state such in their application. Although HOPE will try to grant these requests, the candidate will be competing against an unknown candidate pool, which lessens the likelihood of a favorable decision.
  • Full-time interns and fellows work 32-hour weeks (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch) and are given Friday off. Because HOPE interns and fellows work a shortened week, there may be opportunities for them to seek weekend employment to help cover expenses. Work schedules vary for interns and fellows based overseas.
  • Internships with HOPE should span a minimum of 10 weeks and can be extended up to a total of nine months per the acceptance of the supervisor. Fellowships are typically 6- to 12-month positions.
