About the role

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is located on the beautiful Wasatch front, offering hiking, skiing, and a wealth of entertainment and cultural opportunities. SLCC serves over 60,000 students and values strong academic leadership. Associate Deans (ADs) are foundational to this leadership, shaping division success, growth, and future. They influence the professional growth of faculty and students while leading faculty in teaching and service roles. This is a full-time administrative position.

The Nursing Associate Dean clarifies, communicates, and implements the division’s vision, mission, and goals. Acting as the primary spokesperson for faculty and students, this role collaborates with college administration, peer institutions, and the community in curriculum development, recruitment, and retention. The AD fosters professional teamwork among faculty to achieve the division’s vision and mission. The Associate Dean of Nursing provides leadership, supervision, and management for division personnel, ensuring high-quality education for SLCC nursing students. This position mentors full- and part-time nursing faculty, lab assistants, and staff, and reports to the Dean of Health Sciences.

Note: Associate Deans serve at the pleasure of the College president and are at-will employees.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an innovative, collaborative, and transparent management style.
  • Work effectively in a team setting with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Address faculty, staff, and student issues positively at the division level and in collaboration with other college departments.
  • Collaborate with external partners to ensure clear communication regarding division programs and related professions.
  • Meet deadlines with integrity, high ethical standards, and the ability to engender trust.
  • Lead, direct, and manage departmental personnel, making appropriate decisions.
  • Manage the division in compliance with College policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Commit to keeping the College accessible to a diverse urban population.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from varied academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
  • Work with community college students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Active and unencumbered nursing license in the state of Utah, or the ability to be licensed within 60 days of hire.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time, college-level teaching experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience working in a nursing discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior experience with ACEN accreditation processes.
  • Macro-level leadership style that is open, honest, and demonstrates active listening and follow-through.
  • Successful experience writing grants.
