Associate Custodian, Evening
About the role
Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment in University facilities. Provide custodial services for classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces. Develop relationships with building occupants and respond to requests. Provide building access by locking and unlocking areas as scheduled. Respond to campus crises to enhance public safety and minimize infrastructure damage.
Under general supervision, clean, sanitize, and maintain work, learning, research, and public spaces using established practices and procedures. Tasks include cleaning, dusting, and wiping furniture, walls, fixtures, and surfaces; sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors.
This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as an Associate Custodian or Custodian, with the level determined by the hiring manager based on the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces
- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture, walls, fixtures, and surfaces
- Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors
- Lock and unlock building areas as scheduled
- Respond to campus crises to support public safety and minimize damage
- Develop relationships with building occupants and address service requests
- Operate powered and non-powered floor care equipment
- Follow safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment
- Work outdoors in varying temperatures (below 32°F and above 90°F) up to 10% of the time
Requirements
Associate Custodian (S1)
- No formal education or experience required
- Must complete onboarding training or be enrolled in a program within 90 days of hire
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English for effective communication
- Basic math skills and good work organization
- Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment
- Must work well in a team environment
- Ability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs frequently and up to 60 lbs occasionally
Custodian (S2)
- Six months of custodial experience
- 24 months of total work experience
- Must complete onboarding training or be enrolled in a program within 90 days of hire
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English for effective communication
- Basic math skills and good organization
- Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment
- Must work well in a team environment
- Ability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs frequently and up to 60 lbs occasionally
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of general work experience
- A valid U.S. or Canadian Driver’s License
Pay
Hourly rate: $15.00 plus a $0.70 shift differential, totaling $15.70 per hour.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
