Associate Corporate Counsel, Food Safety Compliance

About the role

Amazon is looking for an innovative regulatory and compliance attorney to support Amazon’s Food Safety Operations team in North America.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day advice to our Amazon’s Food Safety Operations team and food businesses on regulations governing the transport and sale of food from farm to fork, including laws governing food production, distribution, labeling, recalls, foodborne illnesses and allergens, and permitting.
• Monitor and advise food safety and compliance teams on upcoming regulatory changes and maintenance of existing compliance processes.
• Provide mission critical legal advice on the design of safety mechanisms and technology tools developed and used by the Food Safety and technology teams, including those impacting food recalls.
• Advising on internal processes and practices to support food safety related governance requirements and expectations;
• Responsible for engagements with regulators such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Health Canada and provincial, state and local health departments.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of legal experience
• Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
• Knowledge of the ethical considerations surrounding AI in the legal context, such as confidentiality, accuracy, and bias prevention
• Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines
