Associate Controls Engineer

About the role

Tesla is looking for a qualified Associate Controls Engineer to join our factory paint plastics engineering team in Austin, TX. You will play a pivotal role in the design of complex manufacturing facilities. This role requires a highly organized mindset, a passion for driving multi-disciplinary projects, and an unparalleled ability to consistently perform at a high level.

Responsibilities

• Application-based selection of instruments and control devices required to operate and optimize complex mechanical and paint process systems, including ovens, air supply units, paint automation cells, conveyors, and network systems
• Cover production downtime activities and implement permanent solutions through controls projects
• Work with vendors and contractors to review designs and ensure they meet Tesla quality and documentation standards
• Participate in the development of scalable network architectures for plant-wide high-reliability control systems
• Work closely with HMI developers and programmers to optimize data exchange and enhance system usability
• SCADA system development to optimize production and maintenance efficiency
• PLC programming capable of permanent engineering improvements

Requirements

• Degree in an Engineering field, or equivalent experience
• 1-3 years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer, or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
• Ability to review eplans, process, and mechanical drawings to properly simulate and install equipment needed at coatings shops
• Familiarity with paint controls systems
• Configuration of controls networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Serial Communication
• Knowledge of industrial process and manufacturing equipment, including safety systems
• Proficiency in Siemens, Allen Bradley, or Beckhoff
• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining controls standards
