Associate Consultant - AI Engineering

About the role

• Complete a four-week, immersive training bootcamp covering Slalom consulting foundations, product engineering, project delivery fundamentals, and AI-enabled engineering standards.
• Earn hyperscaler and partner certifications (AWS, GCP, Azure, and others) to accelerate your readiness for deployment.
• Shadow experienced engineers on live engagements, applying your learning to real work.
• Build a cohort community with fellow early-career engineers across the U.S. and Canada.

As an AI Academy hire, you will grow your craft across these domains, developing into a well-rounded, AI-native technology consultant within our Cloud-Build and Data teams.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality application code, data pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code for cloud-based ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP), using AI-assisted tooling and copilots as a core part of your workflow.
• Own the build and verification of software components at the unit and integration level, applying automated testing as a standard practice.
• Contribute to data platform delivery, including cloud data warehouses, streaming systems, and AI-accelerated pipelines.
• Configure and maintain cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tooling your team depends on.
• Drive quality engineering practices, including test planning, automation, and defect management, leveraging AI where applicable.
• Partner with senior engineers, architects, and client stakeholders in cross-functional teams, participating in client-facing ceremonies like stand-ups, sprint reviews, and technical discussions.
• Share your learning with the broader engineering community through knowledge-sharing forums and internal collaboration, helping shape how Slalom builds with AI.

Requirements

We're hiring for potential, curiosity, and consulting aptitude alongside technical fundamentals. You don’t need deep specialization yet—just the right foundation and mindset to grow fast in an AI-enabled delivery environment.

Technical foundation (any combination of the following):

• Exposure to software development in one or more modern languages (e.g., Python, TypeScript, Java, .NET).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) at a conceptual or hands-on level.
• Basic understanding of data concepts—databases, pipelines, or analytics.
• Awareness of software quality principles—testing, debugging, or automation.
• Academic background and/or experience with AI/ML, GenAI tooling, or intelligent systems.
• Demonstrated certification in one or more of the following: AWS, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, or Anthropic—with preference given to recent AI-focused certifications.

Consulting aptitude and soft skills:

• Clear communicator—able to explain your thinking to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Client presence—professional, curious, and comfortable in collaborative environments.
• Structured problem-solver—you break big problems into smaller ones and follow through.

Typically 0–3 years of professional or academic experience in a technology-related field. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Location & Work Environment

This role is open to candidates located near certain U.S. Slalom offices. For the Fall 2026 cohort, targeted locations include: Atlanta, GA; Washington, D.C.; St. Louis, MO; and Chicago, IL. The AI Engineering Academy training phase is delivered virtually, allowing you to learn alongside your cohort from anywhere. Following the Academy, you will work in a hybrid environment, spending approximately three days per week in person at your local Slalom office or client site, with flexibility for the remaining time.

Pay

The targeted base salary pay range for this role in Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; St. Louis, MO; and Washington, DC is $76,000 to $95,000. Individuals may also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors.
