Associate Clinician I

About the Role

We are seeking qualified associate clinicians (AMFT, ACSW, APCC) for our substance abuse and sex offender treatment program. The Forensic Clinical Associate conducts forensic evaluations, facilitates group and individual sex offender-specific treatment, performs evaluations and risk assessments, and provides forensically informed case management services for individuals involved in the criminal legal system. This role is ideal for Mental Health Professionals (MHP) seeking hands-on clinical experience in a fast-paced community forensic setting.

Forensic Clinical Associates work closely within a multidisciplinary treatment team, receive structured mentorship, and report to the clinical director. The agency provides ongoing professional development for all employees.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intakes and assessments for forensic clients, including screenings and interviews.
• Provide forensically informed support services to individuals experiencing mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and/or behavioral instability.
• Perform comprehensive case management and maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation (e.g., progress and treatment reports, assessments, clinical and collateral notes) in accordance with agency policies, BBS, CASOMB, and ATSA standards.
• Maintain 60-65% direct clinical contact—utilization rate providing short-term and long-term individual and group psychotherapy to forensic clients.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while maintaining ethical and professional standards.
• Maintain professional composure under high-stress or sensitive situations while managing confidential information.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrate professionalism by being a reliable and trustworthy colleague and accountability for assigned clinical and administrative tasks.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Clinical Director.

Requirements

• Must adhere to California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) state certification requirements.
• Must adhere to board licensing boards standards and requirements.
• Clear background check.
• Ability to work independently in the office and provide direct client services without another staff member present.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or higher in a relevant field.
• California State Licensed or license-eligible (AMFT, ACSW, APCC).
• At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders (preferred).
• Minimum of one year of substance abuse or CBT training experience.
• Experience providing treatment to adults and/or juveniles with a history of sexually abusive, domestic violence (DV), or substance abuse behaviors.
• Demonstrated understanding of the therapeutic process and commitment to helping clients achieve their treatment goals.
• Dedication to preventing further sexual victimization and ability to address difficult issues with a challenging population.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage difficult client discussions.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and outside agencies.
• Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
• Proven track record of reliability and consistency of high performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Certification by the California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) or meet the requirements for CASOMB Certification (www.CASOMB.org).
• Experience in forensic settings (e.g., jail, court programs, re-entry, diversion, inpatient forensic).

Professional Development

• Attend team meetings and agency-sponsored and CASOMB-specific training to strengthen forensic clinical skills.
