Associate Clinician I

About the role

We are seeking qualified associate clinicians (AMFT, ACSW, APCC) for our substance abuse and sex offender treatment program. The Forensic Clinical Associate conducts forensic evaluations, facilitates group and individual sex offender-specific treatment, performs evaluations and risk assessments, and provides forensically informed case management services for individuals involved in the criminal legal system. This role offers hands-on clinical experience in a fast-paced community forensic setting, with structured mentorship and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intakes and assessments for forensic clients, including screenings and interviews.
• Provide forensically informed support services to individuals experiencing mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and/or behavioral instability.
• Perform comprehensive case management and maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation (e.g., progress and treatment reports, assessments, clinical and collateral notes) in accordance with agency policies, BBS, CASOMB, and ATSA standards.
• Maintain 60–65% direct clinical contact (utilization rate) providing short-term and long-term individual and group psychotherapy to forensic clients.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while maintaining ethical and professional standards.
• Maintain professional composure under high-stress or sensitive situations while managing confidential information.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability for assigned clinical and administrative tasks.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Clinical Director.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree or higher in a relevant field.
• California State Licensed or license-eligible (AMFT, ACSW, APCC).
• At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders (preferred).
• Minimum of one year of substance abuse or CBT training.
• Experience providing treatment to adults and/or juveniles with a history of sexually abusive, domestic violence, or substance abuse behaviors.
• Demonstrated understanding of the therapeutic process and commitment to helping clients achieve treatment goals.
• Dedication to preventing further sexual victimization and ability to address difficult issues with a challenging population.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage difficult client discussions.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and outside agencies.
• Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
• Proven track record of reliability, consistency, and high performance.
• Strong desire to learn and grow professionally.
• Must adhere to California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) state certification requirements.
• Must adhere to board licensing standards and requirements.
• Clear background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Certification by the California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) or meet the requirements for CASOMB Certification (www.CASOMB.org).
• Experience in forensic settings (e.g., jail, court programs, re-entry, diversion, inpatient forensic).

Professional Development

• Attend team meetings and agency-sponsored and CASOMB-specific training to strengthen forensic clinical skills.

Operational Requirements

Due to the nature of our clinical and operational responsibilities, there will be times when staff members are required to work independently in the office and provide direct client services without another staff member present. The ability to work independently in these scenarios is a core competency of this role and an operational necessity for our clinics to function effectively.

• Lifting/Carrying: Lift and carry objects weighing up to 25–50 pounds.
• Manual Dexterity: Operate computers, EMR systems, and office equipment.
• Vision/Hearing: Clear vision and hearing for client observation, documentation, and communication.
• Navigation: Safely move through office, clinic, or community environments while interacting with clients or staff.
