About the role
The Associate Automation & AI Engineer supports the team by building reports, automating repetitive manual work, and applying AI-assisted tools to low-complexity operational tasks that may have technology or service impact. Partnering with stakeholders to understand their needs, this early-career role develops Power BI reports, supports basic automations and integrations between systems, and learns to use AI tools to improve reporting and reduce manual effort.
Responsibilities
- Partner with team members and stakeholders to understand their reporting and information needs.
- Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards using approved, governed data sources.
- Learn how the team's systems, data sources, and integrations work, building understanding over time rather than being expected to be an expert on day one.
- Aid in automating repetitive, manual tasks using tools such as Power Automate and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
- Learn how API integrations work and help connect systems (for example, ServiceNow with other platforms), with guidance.
- Aid in data and integration platforms such as Databricks to help build reports and connect systems, learning these tools as you go.
- Learn to use AI to help build reporting and dashboard solutions and, over time and with guidance, support simple machine-learning (ML) models.
- Write and maintain simple scripts (e.g., Python or PowerShell) to support automation and data preparation.
- Test reports and automations to confirm they work as intended before they are used.
- Aid in operational and incident-related reporting and help improve the quality of operational data.
- Help keep clear, up-to-date documentation for the reports, automations, and workflows you build.
- Grow toward identifying automation opportunities and recommending simple solutions with mentorship.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on IT or technical experience.
- A degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems) is helpful but not required.
- Typically, 1 - 3 years of experience in an IT, technical support, operations, or other relevant role.
- Basic knowledge of reporting and automation tools (e.g., Power BI, Power Automate, and a scripting language such as Python or PowerShell).
- Basic comfort working with data (e.g., spreadsheets and databases).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people to understand their needs.
- Eagerness to learn new tools and grow technical skills on the job.
- Native-level proficiency/fluent in English.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to Microsoft 365 Copilot or other AI-assisted tools for automation, summarization, or reporting.
- Familiarity with IT service management platforms (e.g., ServiceNow), including their reporting or AI and automation capabilities.
- Interest in learning data and integration platforms such as Databricks to help build reports and connect systems.
- Basic understanding of APIs and how systems connect and share data.
- Curiosity about using AI development assistants to help build reports, dashboards, and simple machine-learning (ML) models.
- Experience creating reports, dashboards, or documentation for non-technical audiences.
- Prior experience in an IT operations, service desk, or ITSM environment.
- Ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
