About the role
The Associate Attorney is responsible for discovery, law & motion, with an emphasis on California employment law, both individual claims and cases involving class action and representative group PAGA claims. The attorney will work closely with senior trial and arbitration counsel managing a portfolio of litigation, providing high-quality legal counsel, advocacy, and client service.
Responsibilities
- Draft and respond to all forms of civil discovery
- Law & Motion and related research for motions and oppositions for discovery motions to compel, motions for summary judgment and summary adjudication, pre-trial and pre-arbitration documents and briefs, and post-trial motions
- Demonstrated experience with use of AI legal research and analysis of motions, oppositions and pleadings
- Perform legal research using Lexis+ AI, Westlaw and other sources ; synthesize case law, statutes, regulations, agency and department authorities, and experience or ability to understand and use AI in various forms of litigation
- Appear in court, depositions, and mediations
- Develop case strategy and maintain regular client communication
- Be able to work towards and handle a case load of 30+ cases under the guidance of a managing attorney
- Draft reports and stipulations; engage in motion practice; and prepare briefs, including mediation briefs
- Review, edit, and finalize correspondence
- Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and support staff to ensure accurate file management and deadline compliance
- Mentor clerks or joiner attorneys and provide feedback on drafting, courtroom technique, and client interaction
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the California State Bar
- 3 - 5 years of relevant litigation experience in a law firm
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, PDF software, and legal research platforms
- Strong drafting, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills and ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in employment law, class actions, and/or PAGA Actions
- Familiarity with case management systems (e.g., FileVine), and Document Generation
- Experience with arbitration, trial, online filing, state & federal courts, and specific experience with AAA, JAMS and other mainstream Arbitration forums
