Associate Attorney – General Liability Defense

About the role

An established law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its civil defense litigation practice in Long Island. The attorney will handle a diverse caseload involving general liability and civil defense litigation matters, including personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction and labor law, and product liability.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings and respond to written discovery.
• Take and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
• Participate in arbitrations, court appearances, and trials.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis.
• Develop case strategies and evaluate potential outcomes.
• Negotiate settlements and communicate with clients, courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
• Provide regular updates to clients regarding case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with partners, associates, and legal staff.
• Manage cases in accordance with billing and budget requirements.
• Travel as needed for court appearances and client meetings.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• 3–7 years of civil litigation experience, preferably on the defense side.
• Active New York Bar admission and good standing is required.
• Demonstrated experience with courtroom appearances, depositions, and settlement negotiations.
• Experience with general liability defense preferred.
• Experience involving personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction/labor law, and/or product liability preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated interest in civil defense litigation.
• Third-party insurance coverage experience is a plus.
• Judicial clerkship experience is a plus.
• Must be able to work daily from the Long Island/Garden City office.

Pay

$130,000–$170,000 annual salary, depending on education, experience, and internal equity. Potential bonus opportunities.
