About the role
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our firm focusing on civil and commercial litigation. This role requires strong legal research and writing skills, courtroom readiness, and the ability to manage a varied caseload while upholding the highest ethical standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, motions, briefs, and pleadings for civil and commercial litigation matters.
- Manage case files from intake through disposition, including discovery, depositions, hearings, and settlement negotiations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and commercial agreements, including contractor agreements, leases, purchase and sale documents, and corporate contracts.
- Assist with corporate matters such as entity formation, governance, mergers and acquisitions support, and compliance counseling.
- Represent clients in court, arbitration, and mediation; prepare witnesses and take trial and deposition testimony when required.
- Counsel clients on risk management, dispute avoidance, and strategy for contract performance and enforcement.
- Coordinate with senior attorneys and partners on strategy, and supervise/paralegal staff as needed to meet deadlines and client expectations.
- Maintain client communications, billing records, and case management documentation in accordance with firm policies.
- Contribute to business development efforts by preparing proposals, attending client meetings, and participating in professional networks.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Illinois
- 3+ years of experience as an attorney with exposure to civil and/or commercial litigation
- Demonstrated experience in litigation (motions, discovery, hearings) and familiarity with civil procedure and evidence
- Proven experience drafting and negotiating contracts, including commercial, corporate, and contractor agreements
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; trial or deposition experience is a plus
- Able to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; excellent organization and time-management skills
- Exceptional client-facing and negotiation skills, with a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis) and case management software; competency with Microsoft Office suite
- Commitment to ethical practice and maintaining client confidentiality
