About the role
The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is currently seeking an Athletic Trainer to support the Sports Medicine program. Associate Athletic Trainers are typically assigned oversight of one primary sports program; however, they may serve in a supporting capacity for a secondary sports program.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily health care of student-athletes.
- Record and maintain appropriate medical records for treatment given.
- Interface with various internal and external personnel for referral purposes and information exchange.
- Provide guidance to part-time athletic trainers, graduate students, and undergraduate students in the Sports Medicine unit.
- Assist in various teaching responsibilities and in clinical education, providing support in the administrative management of the Sports Medicine unit.
- Medical coverage of men’s basketball, and/or other sports as needed.
- Transport student-athletes to medical appointments.
- Other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Senior Associate AD for Sports Medicine.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 2 years of certified athletic trainer experience in an NCAA institutional athletic environment.
- Eligibility for State Licensure as an Athletic Trainer per the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
- CPR/AED certifications.
- Valid driver's license and personal transportation.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of NCAA, ACC and institutional rules and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
- Demonstrates genuine concern and interest for the welfare of student-athletes.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to evaluate therapeutic requirements for student-athletes, and to fit and modify therapeutic and/or protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters or Doctoral Degree.
- 4+ years experience working in a Division I-A institution.
- NBA or G League experience.
- First Aid/CPR Instructor.
- Experience working in the supervision and education of student interns and graduate assistants.
- Experience providing Sports Medicine coverage for men’s basketball and/or acute injuries.
- Experience with performance technologies / movement assessments / post-operative rehabilitation.
- CSCS, CES, PES, FMS, BFR, cupping, and/or Graston certifications preferred.
Pay
Anticipated hiring range: $95,000-$105,000, dependent upon qualifications.

This is an exempt-level, benefited position. This is an in-person position located on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA.
