About the role
At Alpha, students master core subjects through adaptive AI-powered learning platforms. Your role is not academic instruction—it’s motivation and life skills. You’ll facilitate workshops and one-on-one sessions to drive students toward 100% completion of weekly app objectives, using data, incentives, and trust. Success is measured by three metrics: every student completes their weekly goals, demonstrates mastery on life-skill assessments, and reports valuing your support. Falling short on any metric means the role hasn’t been fulfilled.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback practices
- Conduct daily individual and small-group motivation sessions to drive every student to 100% completion of weekly app goals, using Coachbot analytics and Alpha’s incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards)
- Deliver the Test2Pass mastery assessment for each life skill, then provide additional coaching until mastery is achieved
- Refine the workshop playbook and create new sessions to ensure content resonates with kindergarteners through 8th graders
- Serve as both the adult who maintains high expectations and the adult students voluntarily confide in
- Guarantee every student achieves weekly learning objectives, demonstrates mastery of life skills, and concludes the year affirming they enjoyed school
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering whiteboard lectures, designing math and reading curricula, or grading assignments (academic content is delivered through apps)
- Conducting standardized test preparation or being accountable for class-wide test performance
- Managing parent conferences, correspondence, or concerns (campus leadership handles all parent communication)
- Managing behavior for 30 students simultaneously (cohorts are intentionally small, and behavior intervention is one-on-one)
- Passively monitoring students at computers (motivation work is hands-on and relational)
Requirements
- Able to work in person at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Houston, or Brownsville, TX; Springfield, MA; or Park City, UT
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (e.g., classroom instruction, tutoring, athletic coaching, camp leadership, or youth programming)
- Comfortable allowing adaptive learning software to handle academic instruction while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching
- A demonstrated history of high achievement—academic, athletic, or professional—that reflects habitual upholding of rigorous standards
- Stage presence capable of engaging a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without escalating volume
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Background in youth athletics coaching, debate, drama, camp leadership, or after-school programming where you held direct accountability for students achieving defined goals
- Experience delivering social-emotional learning (SEL) or durable-skills instruction
- A specific example of a student who transitioned from disengaged or resistant to fully committed, including the precise intervention you employed
- Regular use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini
