Associate Actuary I
About the role
Join a growing actuarial modeling team responsible for validating and testing critical model enhancements that support valuation, cash flow testing, corporate planning, and assumption-setting functions. This role is ideal for an actuary who enjoys analytical problem-solving, model validation, and collaborating across multiple actuarial disciplines to ensure model accuracy and governance standards are met.
As a senior member of the testing team, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing testing protocols, supporting special projects, and evaluating model changes received from the development team. You will also serve as a technical mentor and trusted resource to junior analysts, helping elevate the team's modeling and testing capabilities.
This position is available onsite in Houston, TX. Relocation assistance is available.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute model testing strategies
- Support model governance initiatives
- Document results and present findings to senior leadership
- Develop and enhance testing protocols
- Evaluate model changes received from the development team
- Mentor junior analysts and provide guidance on effective presentation and communication techniques
- Influence model governance practices and support high-impact actuarial initiatives such as VM-22 and other special projects
- Help shape the development of a growing actuarial testing function
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Four to six years of experience
- ASA designation and progress towards FSA designation
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background
- Ability to demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles
Skills
- Prior actuarial model testing experience (strongly preferred)
- Experience with Moody's AXIS (preferred); experience with ALFA, MoSes, or PathWise also considered
- Programming experience with SQL, VBA, and/or VB.NET (preferred)
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong communication skills
