Associate Actuary
About the Role
This role requires associates to be in-office 1-2 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office. Candidates not within a reasonable commuting distance from the posting location(s) will not be considered for employment, unless an accommodation is granted as required by law.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced actuarial and statistical analysis by applying the appropriate actuarial analytical tools to the data under limited supervision.
- Update actuarial pricing and forecasting models as directed.
- Refine and collect appropriate data for actuarial analysis, ensuring its reasonableness and accuracy through coordination within the division.
- Serve as an informal mentor to other analysts on the team, guiding them through projects and advancing their analytical and technical skills.
- Perform key actuarial functions including new product pricing, evaluation of the impact of new legislation, flexible benefit consulting, and special projects.
- Assist in the determination of Commercial rates, including rate impact analysis, supporting forecasting functions, and supporting regulatory filings.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree and minimum of 4 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
- ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) certification required from the Society of Actuaries (SOA).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Advanced MS Excel experience (e.g., data modeling, complex functions, pivot tables, and creating dashboards for data visualization purposes) strongly preferred.
- Ability to write and optimize complex queries to ensure data integrity and reliability when cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large datasets using SQL, SAS, or other data tools strongly preferred.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills strongly preferred.
- Commercial health insurance experience preferred.
Pay
For candidates working in person or virtually in California, Colorado, or Illinois, the salary range for this specific position is $126,720 to $207,360.

Schedule
Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process.
