About the role
The Associate Accountant will support the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory under the direction of the Principal Accountant. Key responsibilities include processing patent invoices for payment, managing cash receipts and accounts receivable, conducting general ledger reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and assisting with annual royalty distributions.
Responsibilities
- Processing patent invoices for payment and creating, sending, and tracking rebilling invoices to licensees
- Cash receipts and A/R management process
- Variety of general ledger account reconciliations
- Annual royalty distribution calculation and analysis
- Monthly and year-end close related activities including journal preparation, accruals, and reclassifications
- Researching, analyzing, and correcting complex irregularities and reconciling items in system output results
- Developing, overseeing, executing, and monitoring financial transactions, processes, and systems
- Using computer databases (PeopleSoft FMS and Sophia) to obtain and analyze complex financial information
- Confer with computer programmers to design and develop reports
- Developing, evaluating, and implementing work methods and transaction documentation for efficiencies
- Making recommendations for improvements
- Providing assistance to the Principal Accountant
Requirements
- Minimum 0-1 years related significant professional-level experience or the equivalent combination of experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience in the development and maintenance of complex financial spreadsheets and databases containing advanced functions
- Significant experience in utilizing commercial and/or institutional financial tools
- Experience in financial and/or cost accounting
- Experience in Federal accounting
- Auditing knowledge, skills, and abilities
Qualifications
- Knowledge in interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures including the use of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and methodologies
- Ability to independently research, interpret, analyze, compile, and present data and information
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal to effectively prepare and deliver financial briefings, documentation, reports, and financial advice to Laboratory personnel, and/or other external organizations and agencies
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively explain, negotiate, persuade, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders
Skills
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft financial applications
Benefits
Plus benefits. The position offers a hybrid schedule with a 6-month contract that can be extended based on performance. The hourly rate is $35.
