About the role
The Associate Patient Access Representative (APAR) is the initial point of contact for visitors, handling tasks such as customer service, patient registration, and financial clearance. Key responsibilities include check-ins, scheduling, payment collection, insurance verification, and compliance management.
Responsibilities
- Handle check-ins and scheduling
- Collect payments and manage financial clearance
- Verify medical necessity and communicate coverage and eligibility information
- Enter patient demographics, insurance, and financial information accurately
- Gather and verify health and financial information from patients
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of the electronic health record (EHR)
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1+ years of experience in healthcare office setting or related work history with strong customer service background
Qualifications
- Proficiency in all types of registrations (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency admits)
- Ability to monitor and perform patient hospital and ambulatory movements
- Experience using EPIC work queue to pre-register scheduled patients
- Knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards for verifying medical necessity
- Skills in gathering and verifying health and financial information from patients
- Ability to confirm the completeness of the EHR and make necessary changes
