University Medical Center (UMC) is a 500-bed public, academic medical center serving as the primary teaching hospital for TTUHSC. UMC is the only Level I Trauma Center between Dallas and Albuquerque, the only verified Burn Center between Dallas and Phoenix, and anchors a rapidly expanding cancer enterprise serving West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

About the Role

TTUHSC is seeking an accomplished, visionary physician-leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Hematology & Oncology in the Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Director of the UMC TLC² Foundation Cancer Center. This role offers a career-defining opportunity to lead a premier multidisciplinary oncology program in a new 124,000 sq. ft. comprehensive academic cancer center, which includes:

  • Advanced radiation oncology
  • Infusion & chemotherapy services
  • Outpatient adult and pediatric oncology clinics
  • Two pharmacies: dedicated infusion pharmacy and specialty pharmacy
  • Dedicated research space and clinical trials infrastructure (Phase I-III)
  • Integrative medicine services: acupuncture, massage, art/music therapy, yoga, and nutrition

The selected leader will shape cancer care for over 3 million people across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, aligning with TTUHSC’s Rural Cancer Collaborative efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Division, the Cancer Center, and the service line.
  • Develop a premier multidisciplinary oncology program recognized regionally.
  • Direct multi-disciplinary clinical services spanning pediatric through adult care, including surgery, radiation oncology, palliative care, and additional subspecialties.
  • Increase clinical trials (Phase I-III) and strengthen collaborations with NCI-, DoD-, CPRIT-funded researchers, cooperative groups, and industry-sponsored trials.
  • Advance academic scholarship and extramural funding efforts.
  • Retain, recruit, mentor, and develop Hematology/Oncology faculty.
  • Advise and oversee the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
  • Engage in direct patient care, including supervision and teaching.

Requirements

  • MD/DO.
  • ABMS Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
  • ABMS Board Certified in Hematology & Oncology.
  • 5+ years of clinical practice.
  • 2+ years of clinical leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of clinical leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of research experience.
  • Demonstrated success in clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated success in scholarship.
  • Demonstrated success in extramural funding.

Visa Information

TTUHSC may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions at its sole discretion, subject to approval from the Texas Workforce Commission. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not cover the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Schedule

Full-time position with up to 25% travel required.
