Responsibilities
- Develops, plans, coordinates, and monitors professional and medical aspects related to the delivery of health care services, ensuring quality care and compliance with federal, state, and local legislation.
- Formulates and evaluates programs and projects in collaboration with leadership to accomplish departmental objectives.
- Monitors and coordinates the review of health care programs to ensure they meet established needs, objectives, and goals.
- Maintains liaison with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate departmental activities.
- Reviews experimental models and designs for health care delivery systems to ensure quality care standards.
- Provides guidance to health care settings on utilization review, quality assurance, and discharge planning programs in compliance with state, federal, and The Joint Commission requirements.
- Reviews city, state, and federal regulations and advises personnel on compliance improvements.
- Designs and/or reviews performance audits and recommends improvements to enhance effectiveness and quality standards.
- Provides advisory and consultative services to the system, health care settings, and staff on health care programs, standards, and services.
- Advises leadership on policy and procedural changes, staff development, productivity goals, and program improvements.
- Participates in meetings, plans conferences, and collaborates with health care groups and organizations on special medical programs and standards.
- Supervises staff assigned to departmental activities, providing professional and administrative direction.
- Manages pharmacy-specific tasks, including staff scheduling, drug inventory, and record-keeping.
- Oversees Omnicell inventory management and TempTrak refrigerator/freezer monitoring systems.
- Facilitates processes to improve pharmacy stock room operations and supervises support staff.
- Ensures knowledge and compliance with the 340B Drug Program requirements.
- Maintains accurate shelf and item labels in all pharmacy drug storage locations.
- Prepares and interprets inventory-related reports, verifies vendor orders, and quarantines incorrect, expired, or damaged items.
- Assists in identifying drug use trends and high-cost items, communicating findings to leadership.
- Advises procurement supervisors on procedural changes, staff development, and productivity goals.
- Assists with regulatory audits, performs physical inventories, and monitors drug shortages and recalls.
- Handles expired medications using a Reverse Distributor and ensures compliance with regulatory and hospital rules.
- Coordinates the receiving, checking, and storage of pharmaceuticals and supplies with procurement staff.
- Ensures compliance with the Bar Code Medication Administration policy as it relates to pharmacy.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Pharmacy.
Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Hospital, Health, Public or Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Health, or a related discipline; and four (4) years of full-time, progressively responsible experience in hospital administration with an emphasis on health care delivery services.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in the disciplines listed above; and five (5) years of full-time, paid experience in hospital administration with an emphasis on health care delivery services.
Skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong judgment in managing drug inventory, including ordering, receiving, and record-keeping.
- Proficiency in managing Omnicell inventory and TempTrak refrigerator/freezer monitoring systems.
- Ability to schedule staff and ensure appropriate coverage for daily pharmacy operations.
- Experience with the 340B Drug Program and its requirements.
- Ability to set priorities, make decisions, and respond quickly to inquiries from supervisors or auditors.
- Strong communication skills for advising leadership and staff on procedural changes and improvements.
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and schedule.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and experience assisting with audits.
