Assistant Womens and Mens XC & Distance Coach
About the role
The Assistant XC & Distance Coach provides assistance to the Head XC & Distance Coach regarding recruitment, coaching, and retention of XC & Distance players. Demonstrating a willingness and capability to abide by Athletic Department, Eureka College, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III rules as applicable in XC & Distance, the Assistant XC & Distance Coach provides daily assistance to the Head Coach as directed.
Essential Functions
- Aid in the teaching of XC & Distance to student-athletes at Eureka College.
- Aid in the evaluation, recruitment, and retention of XC & Distance athletes at Eureka College.
- Aid in meeting recruitment and retention goals set by the college.
- Aid the Head Coach with recruitment reports.
- Aid the Head Coach with daily planning, organization, and supervision of practices and competitions.
- Aid the Head Coach with the management of the program's social media accounts.
- Contribute to the overall program of a residential college.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, care for, and inventory equipment and facilities.
- Oversee and maintain accurate statistics as needed for team sport working in conjunction with the Sports Information Director.
- Maintain effective working relationships within the athletic department team and the College as a whole in order to contribute to the overall success of all sport programs.
- Positively lead and contribute as a member of the Athletic Department both internally, around the college, and to external groups.
- Afford oversight of academic progress of student-athletes on the team.
- Assist with the oversight of academic progress of student-athletes on the team.
Education
- Essential: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university; or High School diploma/GED with related professional playing experience.
Experience
- Essential: Experience as XC & Distance student-athlete at the college level. XC & Distance knowledge and experience.
- Desirable: None specified.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of XC & Distance, rules and regulations, including NCAA and SLIAC (as applicable to XC & Distance).
- Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of coaching.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to deliver knowledge to and instruct student-athletes in an effective manner.
- Knowledge of safety and first aid techniques.
- Skill in identifying problems, evaluating alternatives and implementing effective solutions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with a diverse population.
- Knowledge of basic computer applications and electronic mail.
Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Work is routinely performed indoors, in office environments and in gyms, and other recreational environments.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
- Off campus travel is required.
Work Schedule
Varies, morning practices Monday – Saturday, meeting with head coach post practice. Recruitment follow up. Meetings typically fall on Friday evenings and/or Saturdays. XC season runs from mid August through mid November. Indoor and outdoor track runs mid January through early May.
Target Stipend Range
$7,000 annually
