About the role

This position assists the Head Coach with all aspects of the Women's Tennis Program in alignment with the College's values and NCAA Division III philosophy. It reports directly to the Head Tennis Coach and is a 0.48 FTE position that works 1000 annual hours.

Responsibilities

  • Teach fundamental principles and techniques (i.e., competition, traditions and sportsmanship) as well as the philosophy of the sport.
  • Aid the Head Coach in organizing and preparing practices and conducting safe and strategic individual and team training sessions and competitive strategies.
  • Help develop and implement game plans, reports, strategies and on-field duties as assigned.
  • Aid in film breakdown and analysis.
  • Serve as a mentor, teacher, leader and role model to student-athletes.
  • Support the Head Coach in developing and incorporating a comprehensive recruiting plan that demonstrates successful results for the recruitment, yield and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Aid with the arrangement and supervision of transportation, lodging and meals in conjunction with off-campus competition.
  • Work with the team to ensure representation of the College, while off-campus, is at the highest level.
  • Comprehend, understand and work within the parameters of Whitman College, the NWC and NCAA Division III philosophy and rules.
  • Be proactive pertaining to all aspects of safety, including injury prevention, risk management, and the proper use of facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for student-athletes by identifying potential hazards, modeling best practices, and ensuring timely reporting of accidents or concerns.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Head Coach and the Director of Athletics.
  • Coordinate team, alumni and community outreach and events, including tennis camps, clinics and community service.
  • Represent the College and its athletic program with honesty, integrity and sportsmanship at all times.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum of two years of coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Experience with NCAA Division III philosophy and rules.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of women's tennis fundamentals and strategies.
  • Effective leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work well with students, staff, and community members.
  • Proficient in using video analysis software.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
