About the role
The Assistant Warehouse Manager oversees the Pulling, Shipping, and Receiving departments, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a supervisor for the Pulling, Shipping, and Receiving departments.
- Provide tools, direction, and motivation to employees to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure timely resolution of outstanding warehouse tasks.
- Perform supervisory functions including recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, discipline, and problem resolution.
- Work with Branch and Warehouse Managers on hiring and termination decisions.
- Train new and existing staff on relevant duties and policy/procedure updates.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
- Answer questions related to products, policies, and procedures.
- Aid in resolving issues related to order processing and inventory control.
- Utilize records of employee errors for retraining and guidance.
- Collaborate with Branch, Warehouse Managers, and HR on employee matters including payroll, timekeeping, disciplinary actions, terminations, and benefits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- At least two years of specialized warehouse management training.
- At least two years of experience as a supervisor in a distribution setting.
- At least two years of experience in the veterinary industry.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Basic computer skills, including Windows-based computer operation and data entry.
- Ability to differentiate product codes and descriptions.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Good listening and verbal communication skills, including diplomacy and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage, delegate, and lead employees.
- The ability to make quick decisions based on sound business logic.
- The ability to work with corporate offices to achieve mutual goals.
- The ability to remain flexible and open-minded.
- Attention to detail critical for accuracy and completion of objectives.
- Moderate exposure to dust and dirt.

- Bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching.
- Long hours as needed.
- Frequent use of a telephone for listening and speaking.
- Frequent use of hands for writing and computer keyboard.
- Use of equipment: Windows-based computer, tape gun, safety knife, 2-way radio, safety equipment, markers, label equipment, packaging materials, ladders, box cutter, forklift, pallet jack, safety-inspected vehicle, hand cart.
- Indoors in a relatively temperature-controlled climate with occasional exposure to heat, cold, or humidity.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Handling of products with cautionary warning labels.
