About the Role

The Assistant Vice President of Operations is responsible for setting objectives, planning, staffing, and directing activities of assigned departments and areas of responsibility, including Environmental Services, Nutrition and Food Services, Facilities Management, hospital-specific service line oversight (e.g., neurosciences, orthopedics), and Transport. This role involves a matrix reporting relationship with Corporate Construction, Admitting Registration, and Volunteer Services. The position supports and promotes the vision, mission, and strategic plans of Methodist Health System.

Requirements

  • MHA, MBA, MS in hospital administration, healthcare administration, or a specialty field within areas of responsibility, or equivalent education/experience preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience in hospital administration or a related specialty field preferred.
  • Experience as a leader within a hospital, having previously served as an Assistant VP, Operations, or ancillary services leader.
  • Proven ability to expand and redesign services using innovative approaches to maximize clinical quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach to decision-making.
  • Experience working within a highly complex organization or health system.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with experience leading diverse work teams, developing organizational strategy, and engaging partners.
  • Excellent leadership, self-direction, judgment, organizational, time management, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Very strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong process orientation with a detail-oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to provide vision and leadership, plan and schedule the work of others, and demonstrate capability to interface effectively with all departments and employees in a team-oriented environment.

  • Direct effective quality operations to maximize return on investment and community reputation.
  • Energize the people and community to seek innovation, expansion of services, and program enhancement for community benefit and financial health.
  • Maintain professional relationships with appropriate officials, communicating honestly and completely, and behaving in a fair and nondiscriminatory manner.
  • Act as a role model for service quality standards and behaviors.
  • Attain all agreed-upon goals and objectives within specified time frames as part of the overall mission.
  • Review performance in relation to established goals and implement changes to effect continual improvement in services provided.
  • Develop and revise organizational structures to meet functional needs, ensuring communication, reporting, and incentives align people and processes.
  • Assume responsibility as administrator on-call according to a rotating schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Respect the confidentiality of hospital and patient information.
  • Develop goals, performance objectives, and metrics for operational divisions and departments, initiating specific programs in each area.
  • Collaborate with other departments to create systems and problem-solve ongoing issues affecting departmental/organizational goals and patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling desired behaviors and encouraging them in others.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Communicate the hospital's mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to other leaders and staff in goal-setting, problem-solving, resource management, and outcome achievement.
  • Follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Responsible for the fiscal management of assigned departments and proper utilization of organizational financial resources.
  • Provide consultation, counsel, and guidance to key personnel, such as supervisors, coordinators, and clinical/non-clinical directors.
  • Ensure operational excellence in assigned departments, delivering quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Manage Human Resources to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
  • Adhere to time and priority management, timeliness, and attendance standards.

About the Organization

Methodist Dallas Medical Center is a 595-bed acute care teaching and referral hospital, serving as the flagship hospital of Methodist Health System. It is home to the only adult Level I Trauma Center in southern Dallas, the first and only Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in southern Dallas, and the newly renovated Linda and Mitch Hart Breast Center. The medical center offers a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and programs for liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation.
