Assistant Vice President, Auxiliary Services - Business Operations
About the role
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Auxiliary Services at Emory University provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial stewardship for key campus services including Housing, Dining, Bookstore, Emory Card, and Mail and Print services. This position ensures these services support the university's mission, enhance the student experience, and operate efficiently and sustainably.
Responsibilities
- Leads a team of professionals and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services.
- Utilizes a service approach to work collaboratively with students, faculty and administrators to understand and support the needs of customers for sustainable, responsive and effective programs in auxiliary services.
- Provides innovative recommendations to increase revenue in auxiliaries while ensuring a sustainable expense model.
- Ensures that all transactions and activities are managed within University Audit, Compliance and GAAP policies and procedures.
- Develops and implements long-term strategic plans for auxiliary services aligned with institutional goals.
- Led initiatives to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintains oversight for RFP and contract processes for outsourced services.
- Oversees daily operations of Housing, Dining, Bookstore, Emory Card, and Mail & Print services.
- Ensures compliance with university policies, local/state/federal regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Manages vendor relationships and contracts, including performance evaluation and renewal processes.
- Develops and manages budgets for all auxiliary units, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
- Sets annual budgets and provides monthly financial updates to the Senior Associate VP for Business Operations.
- Analyzes financial performance and implements strategies to optimize revenue and control costs.
- Leads and manages the annual process to set housing and dining rates to be approved by the board.
- Prepares reports and presentations for senior leadership on financial and operational performance.
- Conducts regular audits and financial reviews to ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance with university and regulatory standards.
- Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures governing auxiliary services.
- Ensures policies are current, compliant, and effectively communicated to stakeholders.
- Collaborates with legal, compliance, audit, and risk management teams to address policy-related issues, conduct reviews, and implement corrective actions where appropriate.
- Communicates policy updates effectively to internal teams and stakeholders, ensuring consistent application across all auxiliary units.
- Selects, negotiates, and manages contracts with third-party vendors supporting Housing, Dining, Bookstore, Emory Card, and Mail & Print services.
- Establishes performance metrics and conducts regular evaluations to ensure vendors meet service standards, compliance requirements, and financial expectations.
- Fosters collaborative relationships with vendors to drive innovation, resolve issues, and continuously improve service delivery.
- Ensures vendor activities align with university policies, risk management protocols, and strategic goals.
- Develops contingency plans and leads response efforts for operational disruptions.
- Ensures business continuity and safety across all auxiliary functions.
- Supervises and mentors department managers and staff, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Promotes professional development and continuous improvement across all auxiliary units.
- Ensures services are responsive to the needs of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Leads efforts to gather feedback and continuously improve service quality.
- Collaborates with campus partners to support student success and community engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 10 years of progressive leadership experience in auxiliary services or related fields.
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience managing in the Auxiliary Services space on a college campus with oversight of services such as housing, dining, bookstore and ID card services strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing complex operations, budgets, and vendor relationships.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
