About the role

Oversee and direct the activities of the Accounting and Finance department and staff. Ensure that reports, accounts, systems, internal controls, policies and practices adhere to codified accounting standards (ASC). Establish, coordinate, and maintain an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the credit union. Provide all financial reporting as required by leadership or the Board of Directors. Oversee Finance staff and functions. Act as primary back up to Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Pay

$107,550.00 - $113,525.00, plus eligibility for an annual performance-based incentive bonus up to eighteen (18) percent. This incentive is based on InTouch Credit Union achieving established service and financial measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage all general ledger accounting and bookkeeping functions of the credit union, including but not limited to, accounts payable, fixed assets, investments, general ledger account reconciliations and applicable recordkeeping.
  • Ensure that the general ledger is maintained so that it will accurately support the creation of financial statements for the institution.
  • Design, implement and maintain internal financial controls to mitigate risk, safeguard corporate assets and facilitate internal and external audits.
  • Manage all financial reporting, including monthly Financial Statements, Branch Financial Statements, and other monthly branch reporting.
  • Assist the SVP/CFO with preparing information required to report to leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Conduct analytical review of income and expense accounts to ensure they accurately reflect the Credit Union’s operations, understanding variances to budget, and ensuring earnings are accurately stated in conformity with codified accounting standards (ASC).
  • Accountable for ensuring that the general ledger is reconciled to the credit union’s investment system, and that all investments are accounted for appropriately and accurately.
  • Manage Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) allowance reserves and reporting, maintain the applicable software system and models, and keep policies and procedures up to date.
  • Oversee and manage ACH receiving and origination, share draft payment processing, as well as all related operations and internal controls.
  • Serve as Federal Reserve Bank liaison.
  • Responsible for preparing and filing certain Tax Returns and/or data and information with various Federal, State, and local tax authorities.
  • Assist SVP/CFO and oversee the Financial Analyst with respect to all Finance functions, including cash management and forecasting, intra-month leveraging activities, and asset liability management modelling functions.
  • Assist SVP/CFO with preparing the annual operating budget for the credit union, as well as maintaining software to support budgeting activities and reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the accounting and finance functions. Ensure that policies and procedures reflect current regulations and that accounting procedures are in strict compliance with ASC.
  • Collaborate with Senior Management Team on long-term financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and process improvements.
  • Responsible for leading department staff, including establishing and maintaining a structured cadence for team meetings, one-on-ones, daily checkpoints, on-the-job coaching/training and observations.
  • Coach staff, address performance gaps timely and in a constructive manner, and effectively communicate performance evaluations.
  • Identify areas for improvement, changes in procedures, new developments, or changes in services. Keep staff up to date on trends and general credit union information.
  • Participate in and lead various internal committees when necessary.
  • Assist the SVP/CFO and Credit Union leadership with achievement of strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Must be flexible with time; job function generally requires more than a 40-hour work week and may require travel, extended hours, weekend and evening hours, etc.

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility during times of change and promptly and efficiently adjust to project changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting required; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably in a financial institution.
  • At least five years of management experience overseeing teams, audits or major financial reporting cycles.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of financial institution operations and software.
  • Advanced financial modeling capabilities and Microsoft Excel.
  • Mastery of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Robust knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Compliance with Federal Bank Secrecy Act and Money Laundering rules required.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands and work environment described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to sit for extended periods of time. The role also occasionally requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and performing tasks involving finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual activities. Occasionally, the incumbent may need to lift up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. The incumbent routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
