Assistant Varsity Coach - Girls Volleyball

About the role

The Assistant Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach is responsible for coaching, character development, and providing direction to student athletes. This is a seasonal, temporary role (17.5 hours per week maximum for a 10 week season), reporting to the Athletic Director.

Responsibilities

• Coach and develop student athletes to achieve a high level of skill and appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
• Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
• Ensure adherence to team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility.
• Organize and conduct tryouts for the volleyball program, and communicate final selections to the Athletic Department and participants.
• Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Supervise athletes at all times during practices, transport to games, and ensure athletes are picked up by guardians or arranged for transportation.
• Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and community.
• Complete required safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention.

Requirements

• Experience/Education/Licensing: 2 to 3 years of High School or Club Volleyball coaching experience encouraged. High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred). Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage. Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report).
• Knowledge/skills required/abilities: Ability to follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of KIPP Esperanza. Familiarity with sports rules and regulations. Positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members. Professional demeanor. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable transportation throughout San Francisco and the Peninsula. Ability to work independently and within a small team. Ability to coach athletes of different skill levels. Ability to lead practices 3 times a week and games 2 times a week.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $15 per hour for a total of 175 hours for the season. Total pay is $2625 for the season if all hours are worked.

Schedule

This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt hourly position that is based on a school calendar and time-off schedule. 17.5 hours per week maximum for a 10 week season.
