Assistant Utility Operator

About the role

WIN Waste Innovations is seeking an Assistant Utility Operator to monitor and operate ash and other auxiliary plant equipment from the field, ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. This role involves recognizing and mitigating operating difficulties while adapting to changing plant conditions to maximize safety, efficiency, and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and minor repairs to ash handling and other assigned auxiliary systems.
• Operate plant equipment and systems with assistance and guidance to ensure proper functioning.
• Communicate clearly and concisely verbally, in writing, and via in-situ intercom systems, two-way radios, or face-to-face interactions.
• Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring issues, and take appropriate action.
• Troubleshoot equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.
• Operate other equipment, including industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer loaders, and other mobile equipment.
• Maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters collaboration with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers, and management.

Requirements

• Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance and minor repairs, such as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, strainer cleaning, and general preventative maintenance.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime.
• For the State of Massachusetts: Must hold a Massachusetts Hoisting License (1C/2A) or obtain it within 9 months of hire.

Work Environment

• Noise in the work environment.
• Physical demands include:
  • Standing, sitting for prolonged periods, and walking.
  • Handling tools and equipment requiring fine motor skills.
  • Reaching with hands and arms, climbing, and working at heights greater than 4 feet.
  • Stooping, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and crawling.
  • Ascending and descending stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work and emergency egress.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Moving about all plant areas, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception (corrected or uncorrected).
  • Operating a 1.5-inch fire hose at 125 psi line pressure to extinguish fires.
  • Operating fire extinguishing equipment, including handheld extinguishers and 200 lb portable units.
  • Accessing confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways.
