Assistant United States Attorney (Civil Fraud)
About the role
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota seeks a highly motivated litigator to work as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Fraud section of the Civil Division. This position is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Responsibilities
- Identify, investigate, and litigate to combat federal program fraud and return fraudulently obtained funds to the United States of America.
- Conduct pre-trial investigations and handle all aspects of civil litigation, including taking and defending depositions, propounding and answering discovery, engaging in motions practice, trying cases, negotiating settlements, drafting appellate briefs, and arguing cases before appellate court judges.
- Work independently and in teams with other AUSAs and federal government agencies.
- Represent the United States in a manner that instills confidence in the fairness and integrity of the office and the judicial system.
Requirements
- J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
- United States citizenship is required.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.
- Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
Qualifications
- Some civil litigation experience, including taking depositions, drafting and arguing complex motions, and appearing in court.
- Trial experience is helpful but not required.
- The applicant must be motivated to learn and interested in handling large, complex investigations.
- A strong work ethic, the drive to do excellent work, the motivation to move multiple large matters forward at once, the ability to problem-solve, the ability to work independently (with training), and a high degree of integrity, discretion, and humility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience prosecuting complex and long-term investigations.
- Experience litigating cases in federal or state courts, with substantial responsibility for all aspects of investigation, discovery, and trial.
- History of managing numerous ongoing matters.
- Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills.
Education
- A J.D. Degree is required.
Salary Information
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $83,672 to $197,100 which includes 27.62% locality pay.
