Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) - Criminal

About the role

The Northern District of Alabama encompasses the northern half of Alabama with offices in Birmingham and Huntsville, trying cases in both cities, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with federal law enforcement agencies on federal criminal investigations.
• Handle a heavy caseload involving a wide variety of federal criminal offenses, primarily violent crime, child exploitation, firearms, narcotics, immigration, and white-collar crime.
• Prepare and try a high volume of cases, exercising a degree of professional autonomy and responsibility.
• Increase responsibilities and complexity as training and experience progress.

Requirements

• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• At least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
• Pass a background investigation and drug test.
• Pass a selective service registration check.

Pay

Salary is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $83,290 to $197,100 which includes 18.24% locality pay.
