Assistant United States Attorney - Criminal

Duties

The United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of Illinois (CDIL) is seeking to fill two Assistant United States Attorneys positions (AUSAs), one in the Moline, IL office and one in the Peoria, IL office. Both positions are in the criminal division. The selected candidates will be involved in the investigation and prosecution of a wide variety of federal criminal cases, including violent crime, crimes against children, immigration, human trafficking, drugs, national security, firearms trafficking, and white collar crime. AUSAs work in cooperation with their colleagues, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Security Requirements

• Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
• Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Residency Requirements

• Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
• Possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, exhibit good judgment, and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment.

Requirements

• United States citizenship is required.

Education

• Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree from an accredited institution.

Salary Information

• The range of pay for Moline is $81,000 to $140,000 which includes 18.93% locality pay.
• The range of pay for Peoria is $81,000 to $145,000 which includes 17.06% locality pay.

Type of Position

• All initial attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made on a 14 month (temporary) basis pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
