Assistant United States Attorney (Asset Recovery and Money Laundering)

About the role

The Assistant U.S. Attorney hired for this position will work in the Asset Recovery and Money Laundering Section, pursuing justice through forfeiture, collection on criminal and civil debts, and criminal money laundering prosecutions. Responsibilities include:

• Pursuing civil and criminal forfeiture of property acquired through or used in criminal activity, a key component of the Department of Justice's efforts to disrupt criminal conduct and dismantle criminal organizations such as fraudsters, human traffickers, transnational drug cartels, and cyber criminals.
• Leading money laundering investigations, bringing appropriate criminal charges, and resolving or trying those criminal cases.
• Serving as a resource to other Criminal Division AUSAs on money laundering charges, financial investigations, and forfeiture issues.
• Working within the Financial Litigation Program to oversee the collection of criminal and civil debts owed to victims of federal crime and to the United States, including conducting asset investigations, pursuing garnishments, obtaining turnover orders, and unwinding fraudulent transfers.
• Collaborating closely with AUSAs in the Criminal and Civil Divisions to maximize financial recoveries for victims and the government.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

• United States citizenship is required.
• J.D. degree and active membership in the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof (see 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information).
• Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing.
• Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
• Selective Service registration is required for male applicants born after December 31, 1959, if applicable (see www.sss.gov).

Pay

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of pay is $79,667 to $197,100, which includes locality pay.
